New Delhi: India’s retail sector is poised to register a significant economic surge with the upcoming wedding season. A study by the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) says the wedding season, which commences on November 12, is projected to generate Rs 5.9 trillion in business, riding on around 4.8 million weddings across the country, according to a report in Business Standard.
This marks a notable increase from last year’s revenue of Rs 4.25 trillion, which stemmed from 3.5 million weddings. With 18 auspicious wedding dates this year, up from 11 last year, the potential for economic expansion is remarkable. Delhi alone is expected to host around 450,000 weddings, contributing Rs 1.5 trillion to the overall business.
The CAIT study, which analyzed data from 75 cities, indicates that this year’s wedding season will inject a substantial Rs 5.9 trillion into the economy, covering a diverse range of goods and services.
CAIT National President BC Bhartia highlighted the anticipated wedding expenditures for the upcoming season, estimating that there will be 100,000 weddings with expenses of Rs 3 lakh each, 1 million weddings costing Rs 6 lakh each, another million at Rs 10 lakh each, 1 million at Rs 15 lakh each, 700,000 weddings with expenses of Rs 25 lakh each, 50,000 weddings costing Rs 50 lakh each, and 50,000 weddings with expenses of Rs 1 crore or more each.
CAIT National Secretary Sumit Aggarwal noted that these estimates could be conservative given the extensive economic activity expected.
As the wedding season approaches, both consumers and businesses are gearing up for a bustling period filled with opportunities for growth and investment, the report said.
