Bengaluru: There was a major scare at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) on Tuesday after smoke was detected on an
IndiGo flight which was ready for departure.
All passengers and crew members were safely evacuated from the aircraft, the airline said.
The Chennai-bound IndiGo flight was taxiing out to the runway for departure from Bengaluru airport when smoke was detected inside the aircraft. Emergency evacuation was ordered, IndiGo said.
“All customers and crew are safe and have been moved to the terminal, where they are being attended to by our teams to ensure their well-being,” the airline said in a statement.
IndiGo further said that emergency slides were deployed to expedite the evacuation process.
Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) sources said that the Bengaluru-Chennai IndiGo flight 6E-6017 experienced smoke in the cabin during push back.
