IndiGo Passenger Flags Baggage Weight Discrepancy At Chandigarh Airport, Video Goes Viral

Chandigarh: A passenger on an IndiGo flight from Chandigarh to Delhi highlighted a discrepancy at the airport check-in counter. The accuracy of the weighing equipment came into question when he noticed that the same suitcase registered different weights on scales at two separate stations.

The traveller, Daksh Sethi, clarified that his suitcase felt lighter than the weight indicated by the scanner, which is why he first thought there might be a problem. The IndiGo employee at the desk offered that he weighs his bag on a separate belt after he voiced his worries. But when he did, a different reading appeared on the second scale, which confirmed his suspicions.

Documenting the incident, Sethi shared a video on Instagram that quickly went viral.

“Chandigarh airport, 30th Jan 2025, around 16:00, @indigo.6e Counter. Same bag. Two counters. Two different weights 2.3 kgs different,” he wrote.

He further expressed his concern, stating, “Can these machines be easily manipulated? I hope this is just a rare technical glitch. My bag didn’t feel as heavy as the machine showed, so the lady at the counter suggested I check it on another belt. To my shock, it displayed a different weight. I hope this matter is taken seriously.”

The video sparked discussion among the travellers, who are now questioning the reliability of airport equipment and the potential implications for baggage handling and fees. One user wrote, “This has happened with me and my husband almost 3 times in the last 5 years.”

Another commented, “Airports have been scamming us!”

A third said, “I have gone through this. I travelled 4 airports on the same trip with the same luggage on my way back there was an increase in 12 kgs in total of my entire luggage. 3 items in total. It was just impossible. Forget shopping or adding more items my bags should have had a weight reduction because things had been eliminated during the trip. Was travelling alone with a child to a different state and it was quite the harassment.”

Responding to this incident, IndiGo also reacted to the video and stated, “We acknowledge the concern raised regarding baggage weigh-in during a recent journey. The weighing scales at the check-in counters are calibrated and maintained by the airport operators and we are in touch with them regarding this discrepancy. At IndiGo, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing a transparent and seamless travel experience to our passengers.”
