New Delhi: Narendra Modi is a popular global leader as seen by the camaraderie he shares with several heads of state.
His policies are admired and emulated too, as was evident in Jakarta on Tuesday.
At a banquet lunch hosted in honour of the visiting Indian Prime Minister, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto admitted that he follows Modi’s career and even copies many of his programmes. And he was glad there’s no copyright attached to those initiatives, Subianto joked, drawing laug
hter from Modi and others present.
“I want to admit to Your Excellency (PM Modi), I follow your career and I copy many of your programmes,” Subianto said with PM Modi seated next to him, reported ANI.
“I don’t mind admitting it because if it succeeds for hundreds of millions of people with the same background as Indonesia, the same problems… India has achieved much progress. So I openly admit that I follow your career and I copy a lot of your programmes. And it’s proving to be successful for us. So thank you very much,” the Indonesian President explained.
“I am glad that there is no copyright on any of your programmes,” Subianto addressed Modi.
“Just yesterday, an Indonesian team returned after studying the achievements attained by various Indian groups.”
India and Indonesia signed a number of agreements across sectors. Among key announcements were the proposed IIM Bangalore campus and cooperation on medical products regulation.
Modi, who arrived in Indonesia on Monday to begin his three-nation tour, will fly to Melbourne on July 8. He will wind up his tour with a short visit to New Zealand.
