Infant Dies After Vaccination In Keonjhar, ANM Detained

Keonjhar: In a shocking incident, an infant allegedly died at Puskala village in Bansapal block of Telkoi after being administered vaccine late on Wednesday.

An Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) was detained by the irate villagers in connection with the incident.

A medical team has reached the village for investigating the matter.

The villagers blocked the road and demanded arrival of Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) at the spot.

Child’s father said after the vaccination, blood started oozing out twice from the spot where the injection was administered. Later, the infant didn’t take any food and died around 1.30 am.

According to the reports, the baby was given Pentavalent Vaccine. The baby was given tablet for fever. It is suspected that the tablet may be a reason for the death of the kid.

The villagers also demanded compensation for the family of the deceased.

The medical team is investigating the temperature at which the medicine was stored. A report will be given to the CDMO, the sources added.
