Bhubaneswar: The daily COVID caseload in Odisha remained above 800 for the second consecutive day on Thursday as 849 people tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.
The state had reported 887 new cases the previous day, after a consistent fall in the COVID graph for six days – 625, 761, 853, 911, 986 and 1041 on Tuesday, Monday, Sunday, Saturday, Friday and Thursday respectively.
Among those infected are 130 in the age group of 0-18 years, which is 15.31 per cent of the new cases. The infection rate among children and adolescents was 14.7 per cent on Wednesday.
As many as 1390 in the 0-18 age group have tested positive for COVID since August 15, when the government started mapping the paediatric population in the state, while 32 have died due to the deadly disease during this period.
According to the I & PR department, 492 of the new case are from quarantine and 357 local contacts. Khurda (313) and Cuttack (115) – accounted for 50.41 per cent of these new infections. Balangir and Nabarangpur reported nill cases.

Besides, 65 are from the state pool.
With these cases being detected from 71,231 samples, the test positivity rate (TPR) stands at 1.19 per cent against 1.29 per cent the previous day.
While the affected tally has touched 1004059, Odisha now has 8288 active cases.
