Jagatsinghpur: Information about cyber frauds and tips for safe digital banking were shared at a Town Hall programme organised in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur by Reserve Bank of India’s Ombudsman Office on Wednesday.
Chief General Manager and RBI Ombundsman for Odisha Pankaja Kumar Nayak presided over the programme.
In his speech, Nayak shed light on the Reserve Bank Integrated Ombudsman Scheme, 2021 (RB-IOS, 2021) and explained that Ombudsman Scheme is an Alternate Grievance Redressal (ADR) mechanism set up by RBI for expeditious resolution of grievances of customers of RBI regulated entities like banks, NBFCs and payment system participants.
If a customer has any grievance relating to deficiency in service provided any such entity, he must first lodge a complaint with the entity concerned. If the grievance is not resolved by that entity within 30 days or the complainant is not satisfied with the resolution provided, or no reply is received from the entity within 30 days, the aggrieved customer can lodge a complaint with the RBI Ombudsman with relevant details. The easiest way to lodge a complaint is to file it online through the portal https://cms.rbi.org.in.
Nayak also discussed about various cyber frauds faced by customers and mentioned that fraudsters have migrated from cloning ATM cards to defrauding customers through mobile banking and internet banking.
Fraudsters are using various tricks and techniques, including remote access to mobile phones, to collect confidential information from unsuspecting customers to fraudulently transfer funds from their account. People fall into the traps of cyber fraudsters due “fear” “greed” and “ignorance”.
He shared some of the tips for safe digital banking and advised the participants not to search customer-care phone number from the internet using search engines, but to use the number given on the Debit Card/ Credit Card and website of banks/ institutions and to use only secured web sites whose URL has https, for carrying out financial transactions.
A detailed presentation was made by RBI Officers on RB-IOS, 2021 and digital frauds. Around 200 customers of banks also participated in the meeting. The audience shared their grievances with the RBI Officials during the open house session.
