Inform Me Directly: Odisha Minister Urges People Not To Pay Bribe For Pending Work

Bhubaneswar: Reaffirming Odisha government’s commitment to providing services without corruption, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Tuesday urged citizens not to pay bribes to officials to get their pending work done.

The Minister asserted that the Revenue department is monitoring the day-to-day work assigned to officials and he is personally receiving grievances and complaints from people over the phone

as the government always remains alert.

People should never pay bribe to officials for anything though they may face delay in getting work done at times, he said, urging citizens to directly inform him if any official demands money,

Acknowledging that bribery has been a big issue in offices under his department, Pujari said the department has taken stringent action against tainted officials. Proceedings have been initiated against nearly 300 OAS officers so far, while several revenue inspectors have been suspended, he said, adding that several officials have been arrested as per law.

Stating that common citizens visiting government offices should be treated with respect, the Minister said many reforms are required to eradicate corruption. Concrete steps are being taken to make the Revenue Department corruption-free, he added.
