Puri: The priests of Jagannath Temple here performed the rituals for starting the chariot making process for the deities for the Rath Yatra on Tuesday.
The main priest and others performed the puja to three pieces of 12 feet long logs brought from Nayagarh forest for making of the chariots in the evening after the initial rituals at Devi Saraswati on the temple premises. However, the work for shaping the logs will begin from Ram Navami, temple sources said.
Chief administrator of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA), Puri collector and SP, and other senior officials of SJTA were present during the rituals.
Total 865 pieces of wood will be used for construction of the chariots for Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra. While the temple administration has 69 pieces from the last year, 796 logs are scheduled to be brought from the forest of Nayagarh and Boudh districts.
