Inmate Gets Rs 1.9L Compensation From Choudwar Jail Supt For Missing Gold



Cuttack: Days after some gold ornaments of an inmate at Choudwar circle jail in Odisha’s Cuttack district went missing, the prison superintendent paid Rs 1.9 lakh to the woman complainant as compensation based on the current market value of gold.

The woman, identified as Itishree Mohanty of Shukleshwar village under Mahanga police limits, had alleged that her gold ornaments went missing while she was lodged in judicial custody at the jail.
In her complain

t, she claimed that jail authorities had taken custody of her jewellery at the time of her admission, but later failed to return the ornaments.

The woman had initially raised the issue with jail officials and formally informed the superintendent. Subsequently, she filed a police complaint naming jail superintendent Sujit Raul.

Following the allegations, Jail DIG Anusuya Jena had reportedly summoned Mohanty to the jail and recorded her statement. She had assured the complainant that the missing ornaments would be returned within seven days.

CCTV footage also showed gold ornaments being taken by jail staff from Mohanty during her admission.

In a fresh development, jail superintendent Sujit Raul paid Mohanty Rs 1.9 lakh as compensation for the missing ornaments.

After receiving the compensation, Mohanty withdrew her complaint from the police station.
