Institute Of Life Sciences In Bhubaneswar To Be Biorepository For COVID-19 Samples

Bhubaneswar: The Institute of Life Science (ILS), Bhubaneswar, has been chosen as one of the 16 biorepository centres in the country for COVID-19 clinical samples.

The government of India is looking to increase research and development efforts in order to create new diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines in the future. The repository will collect, store and maintain clinical samples (oropharyngeal/nasopharyngeal swabs, bronchoalveolar lavage, sputum, blood, urine and stool) of coronavirus patients.

The institute will be authorized to share these samples with academia, industry and commercial entities involved in development of diagnostics, therapeutics, vaccines after scrutinization. The purpose of sharing clinical specimens and the intended use will be examined by the National Oversight Committee as well as the Institutional Human Ethics Committee.
