Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to set up integrated sports complexes in five cities of the state, said chief minister Naveen Patnaik while felicitating sportspersons with the prestigious Biju Patnaik Sports Award at Jaydev Bhawan here on Tuesday.
“The sports complexes will come up at Jeypore, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Berhampur with an investment of Rs 96 crore under SWARNA scheme. Besides, plans are afoot to establish a Sports City in the state capital with world-class infrastructure facilities,” he said.
The chief minister informed that Rs 15 lakh will also be invested on developing 150 block-level mini stadiums as Krida Vikash Kendras.
On the occasion, the best sportsperson award was conferred on sprinter Dutee Chand.
The chief minister also presented awards to the winners in bravery and social service categories.
Among others, sports minister Chandra Sarathi Behera and other government officials were present at the event.
