Bhubaneswar: An intense cold wave gripped most parts of Odisha on Saturday with a sharp fall in night temperature. The condition will continue for three days till January 1.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday morning that the night temperature fell by about 10-11°C in the interior districts and about 4-5°C in the coastal districts
While Sonepur recorded the lowest temperature at 4°C, the mercury came down to below 10°C in Daringibadi (7), Titlagarh (7), Hirakud (9.8), Sambalpur (7.4), Keonjhar (5.6), Jharsuguda (5.8), Baripada (8.5), Angul (8), Cuttack (9.6) and Balasore (7.6).
Besides, the temperature remained at 12°C and below in Phulbani (10.5), Koraput (10.6), Balangir (10.2), Bhawanipatna (10), Talcher (10.4), Sundargarh (10), Puri (12.2), Bhubaneswar (12) and Chandbali (11).
Reports from Sundargarh said that in the remote areas of Koida and Tensa, snow particles were found on the thatched roofs and vehicles.
Duty officer of Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Madan Mohan Das said that there is a possibility of light to moderate rainfall in some parts of interior Odisha for three days from January 2. After the rainfall, there will be a further fall in the temperature across the state and this will continue till the second week of January.
