Intense Spell Of Rainfall In Bhubaneswar; 32.8 MM Recorded In Airport Area

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack received an intense spell of rainfall on Saturday evening.

The two cities experienced heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm and lightening. Bhubaneswar airport area recorded 32.8 mm rainfall by 5.30 pm, the regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) in the city stated.

Besides the twin cities, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada and Khurda districts witnessed intermittent downpour with thunderstorm and lightning in the afternoon.

Earlier, the IMD had issued a nowcast warning for three districts of Odisha till 5 pm. It forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some parts of Khurda (including Bhubaneswar city), Cuttack (including Cuttack city), Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Deogarh, Sundargarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Gajapati districts.

It stated that the rainfall is likely under the influence of a trough that runs from cyclonic circulation over northeast Rajasthan and neighbourhood to north Chhattisgarh across south Uttar Pradesh. The through line extends up to 3.1 km above mean sea level.
