Bhubaneswar: Although receding floodwaters in Mahanadi and other major rivers have brought partial relief to parts of Odisha with many families still living in waterlogged conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted an increase in the intensity of rain in the state from Wednesday.
Heavy rain may continue to lash Sundaragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam districts on August 4. The intensity of downpour may increase thereafter.
On August 5, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for Mayurbhanj district. Heavy rainfall may also occur at one or two places in the district of Sundaragada,Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabaarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam and Nayagada.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall may continue at one or two places in the districts of Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj on August 6 with heavy rains in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Sundaragada, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam..
There are no orange warnings thereafter. However, heavy rain may continue in Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Kendujhar, and Mayurbhanj on August 7.
There is also a warning of thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty surface wind (30-40 kmph) for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Sambalpur, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonpur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada from August 4-7.
On August 8-9, heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in the districts of Sundaragada, Sambalpur, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Kandhamala, Gajapati and Ganjam with no large change thereafter.
