Bhubaneswar: The intensity of rain is likely to increase in Odisha on August 24-25, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Wednesday.
The state may continue to experience heavy rain along with thunderstorm activity for 3 days under the influence of a low-pressure area, which persists over north Bangladesh and neighbourhood and is expected to move nearly westwards across West Bengal during next 48-hours. Very heavy rain warning has been sounded for the subsequent two days, following which the intensity of spells is likely to ebb, according to the midday bulletin.
August 21
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11cm) and thunderstorm with lightning may occur at one or two places in Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Balasore districts.
Orange warning of moderate to intense rain/thundershower with lightning has been issued for some parts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Cuttack, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Kendrapada, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Boudh, Sundargarh and Bargarh till 6 pm.
People have been advised to keep a watch on the weather and accordingly move to safer places to protect themselves from lightning strike.
August 22
Heavy rainfall and thunderstorm with lightning may continue at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Sundargarh.
August 23
Heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm and lightning is likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur and Deogarh.
August 24
Heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and lightning may occur at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada districts. Heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning can also be expected at one or two places in Rayagada, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh and Bhadrak.
August 25
Heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorm with lightning may continue at one or two places in Sambalpur and Angul. Heavy rainfall along with thunderstorm with lightning is also likely at one or two places in Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Khurda, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Bargarh, Sonepur, Boudh, Koraput and Nabarangpur.
August 26
Heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places in North Odisha.
There is no rain warning thereafter.
Odisha has recorded a 12% deficit in rainfall this monsoon. The state has received 716.6mm against its normal value of 811.9mm between June 1 and August 21.
