Balasore: Police have busted an inter-state sex racket and rescued 8 women including two from West Bengal in Odisha’s Balasore district.

Speaking to media person on the racket on Tuesday, Balasore SP Sagarika Nath said they had formed a special team to investigate a complaint filed by a West Bengal-based NGO stating that a woman from the neighbouring state had been trafficked to Odisha.

Following the investigation, the special team raided a house in Basta in the district and rescued the woman. They also arrested the couple running the flesh trade and a youth who had kept the victim.

The SP said after the victim woman revealed the places where she was sent to meet the customers, the police arrested 4 more persons. Later, another woman, who was trafficked from West Bengal, was also rescued on the basis of the information provided by the first victim.

The special team also arrested the mastermind of the racket from 24 Parganas in Bengal. He was operating the illegal trade through a person in Odisha.

“The special team has raided three places including Basta and Singla where the racket was in operation. They have rescued two main victims and six other women and arrested 13 persons so far,” said the SP.

She also said other persons, involved in the racket, have been identified and would be arrested soon. The assistance of agencies including the Crime Branch will be sought as the racket involves forgery of identification proof and trespassing, she added.
