Bhubaneswar: International chess player from Odisha Padmini Rout tied the nuptial knot with Jaykishin Mankani from Mumbai in Bhubaneswar on Sunday.
According to Padmini’s family sources, the marriage was solemnised as per Vedic traditions at a hotel in Patia of the city. Besides family members of the couple, several chess players from Odisha and outside including Soumya Swaminathan and Nisha Mohota attended the marriage.
While Jaykishin is an IT professional and a chess enthusiast, Padmini continues to pursue chess.
Padmini, who was champion in the U-16 World Chess Championship, is a four-time National Women’s Premier title holder consecutively from 2014-2017. She was also the Asian women’s champion in 2018. She has won Woman Grand Master and International Master titles.
Padmini has also represented the national chess team at Women’s Chess Olympiad, Women’s World Team Chess Championship and Women’s Asian Team Chess Championship. She won individual gold medal at 2014 Women’s Chess Olympiad in Norway.
She was part of the Indian women’s team in Chess Olympiads at Baku in 2016 and at Batumi in 2018.
