Bhubaneswar: The logo of the 90th General Assembly meeting of the Interpol has been designed with the motifs inspired by the chariot wheels of Sun Temple at Konark in Odisha’s Puri district.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is organising the General Assembly of the Interpol in New Delhi next month, unveiled the logo recently. It has a motif with tricoloured leaves placed in a circular fashion with Konark wheel in the middle.
The CBI, which liaisons with the Interpol, conceived the idea of the logo from the chariot wheels of the 13th-century Sun Temple.
“When deciphered in terms of Interpol’s commitment and engagement, the ‘Konark Wheel’ in this logo serves to inspire the global body’s 24×7 functioning and is encircled by three ‘leaved’ spherical elements in colours of Indian flag,” a PTI report quoted an official as saying.
The three encircling spherical elements signify the creation of international bonds through Interpol, steadfast commitment towards the preservation of security globally and the achievement of law enforcement goals, he said.
The Konark temple, considered an architectural marvel of all times, has been carved in the form of the chariot of Sun God having 24 wheels with each bearing 16 spokes.
The three-day Interpol assembly, to be attended by law enforcement officers from 195 countries, will start on October 18. It will focus on corruption and cybercrimes, child sexual abuse material circulated on the internet, missing persons and terrorism besides new technologies and mechanisms to improve police to police cooperation in tracking fugitive criminals across the globe.
The General Assembly is organised by each member country on a rotation basis every year. It was held in India in 1997.
India got an out-of-turn chance to organise the Assembly again due to the efforts of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah who wanted it to be held in the country during the 75th anniversary year of its Independence.
