Interstate Smugglers Disguised As Kanwariyas Held With 60 Kg Ganja In Odisha

Malkangiri: Two interstate drug smugglers were arrested by the police in Odisha’s Kandhamala district on Saturday while allegedly transporting ganja in a car wearing Kanwariya outfits.

Sources said police seized 60 kg of ganja and the car used to transport the contraband by the accused, identified as Arbaaz Khan and Karamat Ali from Uttar Pradesh.

Acting on specific information, a team from Sadar police station intercepted the vehicle near Sankshikata and conducted a search. During the checking, the police team recovered the ganja from inside the car and took both men into custody.

The accused were allegedly travelling in Kanwariya attire while carrying the contraband in an apparent bid to mislead police. Police are now trying to ascertain whether the disguise was being used deliberately to avoid suspicion during the journey.

The two accused are being questioned about the source of the ganja and others involved in the racket. Police are trying to find out where the ganja was being taken and who was supposed to receive it. Further investigation is in progress.
