Kyiv: In another horrific attack on the capital city of Ukraine, Russian shells hit a large shopping centre, killing at least eight people.
Nearby buildings were wrecked as well, leaving smokes emanating from piles of rubble and twisted wreckage of burned-out cars in Podil area, 15 km from Kyiv.
“According to information we have at the moment, several homes and one of the shopping centres were hit,” Kyiv’s Mayor Vitali Klitschko said on his Telegram channel.
Six bodies were laid out on the pavement as emergency services were engaged in search operations, looking for possible survivors on Monday.
Ukraine’s Prosecutor General said at least eight people had been killed in the blast.
Russian forces were about 25 km from the centre of Kyiv, according to British military intelligence.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, which began on February 24, has killed thousands of people and displaced more than 10 million, including 3.5 million who have fled the country to neighbouring countries like Poland.
