Investigate Friend Of Delhi Woman Dragged By Car, She Can’t Be Trusted: Women’s Panel Chief

New Delhi: The friend of the woman who died after being hit and dragged by a car for several kilometres on New Year’s day must be investigated, demanded chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Swati Maliwal.

Anjali’s friend Nidhi, who was with her, fled from the spot and was tracked by police over 48 hours after the incident.

Demanding that the culprits should be hanged, Maliwal explained why she wants Anjali’s friend to be probed.

“This girl who calls herself Anjali’s friend should be investigated and the culprits should be hanged,” Maliwal said.

“Anjali’s friend is repeatedly saying that it (accident) was Anjali’s fault. I want to know what kind of friend she is. When her friend came under a car and was screaming and crying for help, she ran home and went to bed. She did not feel the need to inform anyone about the accident. Neither did she inform the police. Had she tried, Anjali could have been saved,” Maliwal said in a statement.

The DCW chief felt Nidhi can’t be trusted.

“Ever since the police tracked her down, Nidhi has only been trying to defame Anjali. How can we believe a girl who is not loyal even to her dead friend? Anjali died a very painful death. She was dragged for 12 km on the streets of Delhi. Her naked dead body was found on the road. What was the fault of that girl who suffered so much pain? Stop blaming the victim,” Maliwal added.

Anjali, who worked at an event management company, went to a New Year’s Eve party on the evening of December 31. She informed her family that she would be late in returning home.

The police received a. call that a grey Baleno was dragging a body around at around 3.30 am. They found Anjali’s body around 4.10 am near Hanuman Mandir in Delhi’s Jonti village.

Her clothes were torn, there were extensive injuries on the body and legs were separated from the body, reported India Today

Police have arrested five men who were in the car. The accused have maintained they were not aware of a woman being stuck under their car and that they realised it only while taking a turn.

They admitted to having fled the spot after seeing the body.
