Paradip: The contract workers of IOCL Refinery, here on Tuesday staged a black flag demonstration in support of their 10-point charter of demands including compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the family of a worker in case of death due to COVID.
Around 1500 workers under the umbrella of Paradip-Ersama Silpanchal Shramik Sangha (Paradip-Ersama Industrial Workers’ Union) participated in the demonstration in front of the refinery plant of the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) at Paradip under Jagatsinghpur district.
Besides compensation for the family of any worker in case of death due to COVID, their demands included payment of salary in first week of every month, gate pass to all of them, rest house in refinery township and canteen facility on the premises.
The union president Bapi Sarkhel told the media that the workers resorted to the agitation in a peaceful manner without hampering the plant work or causing any damage to it to press their long-standing demands before the refinery authorities.
