Dubai: The fixtures for the 13th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) will be released on Sunday.
Quoting chairman Brijesh Patel on the date of release of the schedule, PTI has reported that defending champions Mumbai Indians and runners-up Chennai Super Kings are likely to get the popular T20 league underway on September 19.
The tournament, originally scheduled from Match 29, had to be postponed and ultimately moved out of India because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The matches will be held in three venues of the UAE – Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi.
All eight teams reached the UAE a fortnight ago and have started training after completing the mandatory quarantine period.
Thirteen members of Chennai Super Kings, including two players reportedly, tested positive for coronavirus in the UAE and have been isolated. A member of the BCCI contingent was also reported to have tested COVID positive.
The BCCI has had to hold back the fixtures keeping in mind the different quarantine rules in different places and also to take stock of the situation different camps.
With the final scheduled for November 10 and the number of double headers expected to be reduced, this is set to be the longest edition in the history of IPL which started in 2008.
