Bengaluru: Ishan Kishan became the most expensive buy on the first day of the IPL 2022 auction on Saturday with Mumbai Indians retaining him for Rs 15,25 crore.
With this, Ishan has become the second-costliest Indian after Yuvraj Singh, who was bought by Delhi Capitals in 2015 for a whopping Rs 16 crore. He remained the highest winning bid until Rajasthan Royals signed South African all-rounder Chris Morris for Rs 16.25 crore in 2021.
Earlier in the day, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had bought Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasarangsa for Rs 10.75 crore each and Disney Karthik for Rs 5.50 crore.
Among Marquee Players, Shreyas Iyer was the most expensive buy with Kolkata Knight Riders spending Rs 12.25 crore for his signature.
The first buy of the day went to Punjab Kings, which bought Shikhar Dhawan for Rs 8.25 crore. Australian ace pacer Pat Cummins was back with KKR at Rs 7.25 crore while Rajasthan Royals bought R Ashwin for Rs 5 crore and Trent Boult for Rs 8 crore.
Gujarat Titans picked Mohammad Shami for Rs 6.25 crore. The former CSK opener, Faf du Plessis, has been bought by Royal Challengers at Rs 7 crore.
Lucknow Super Giants picked Quinton de Kock for 6.75 crore while Delhi Capitals bought David Warned, the former SRH opener, for Rs 6.25 crore.
A number of high profile players including ‘Mr IPL’ Suresh Raina, Steve Smith, David Miller, and Shakib Al Hasan remained unsold in the first round of bidding.
India batter Manish Pandey was picked by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 4.6 crore. Windies left-handed batter Shimron Hetmyer was bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 8.5 crore. India batter Robin Uthappa was acquired by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for Rs 2 crore. Punjab Kings bought Jonny Bairstow for Rs 6.75 core while Chennai Super Kings bagged Ambati Rayudu for Rs 6.75 crore.
Delhi Capital bought Mitch March for Rs 6.50 crore, and Lucknow Super Giants picked Krunal Pandya for a whopping Rs 8.25 crore. Washinton Sundar was brought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 8.75 crore.
Notably, the auction had to be stopped midway after auctioneer Hugh Edmeades collapsed. It was resumed at 3.30 pm with Charu Sharma.
