Bhubaneswar: The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), considered as the biggest T20 league in the world, will be held in India, in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have confirmed.
“IPL 2022 will be held in India and the tournament will be staged without crowds in attendance. Likely venues for IPL 2022 are Wankhede Stadium, Cricket Club of India (CCI), DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai and if needed, we can look at Pune as well,” news agency ANI quoted the sources as saying on Saturday.
The tournament is scheduled to start in April and will be held without any spectators. The news about Mumbai being chosen as the host for the IPL was confirmed by the sources after the list of players who have registered for the upcoming tournament was released.
After the IPL player registration closed on January 20, total 1,214 players (896 Indian and 318 overseas) have signed up to be part of the 2022 player auction.
The two-day mega auction will be held in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13, when 10 teams, including the two new franchises based in Lucknow and Ahmedabad, will bid to form their teams for the 15th edition of the most popular T20 league from the pool comprising 270 capped, 903 uncapped and 41 Associate country players.
Among Indian players to have listed themselves in the Rs 2 crore base price bracket are Devdutt Padikkal, Shreyas Iyer, Shikhar Dhawan, Ishan Kishan, Suresh Raina, Harshal Patel, R Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, Rahul Chahar, Umesh Yadav, Mohammad Shami and Shardul Thakur.
