IPL 2025: Why Did Gujarat Titans Skipper Shubman Gill Lose His Cool?

Ahmedabad: Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill was elegance personified in their IPL 2025 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium at Motera here on Friday evening.

The opener was batting on 76 off 38 balls, looking good for a century. Quite against the run of play, Gill was dismissed. He was adjudged run out by the TV umpire in what looked to be a controversial decision.

Responding to Jos Buttler’s call for a sharp single in the 13th over, Gill was found short of his crease when the bails were dislodged. As with most run out calls, the on-field umpires sought the third umpire’s help.

After going through several replays frame by frame, Englishman Michael Gough ruled that Gill was out even though there looked to be an element of doubt on whether wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen’s glove had touched the bails and dislodged them.

Gill left the ground clearly unhappy. He had a brief chat with on-field umpire Virender Sharma and kept shaking his head.

As he approached the team dugout beyond the boundary rope, he saw the fourth umpire and confronted him.

Visibly agitated, the captain made no bones about what he felt about the decision and had a fiery exchange with the match official, giving him a mouthful.

Some of Gujarat Titans’ support staff, including former India spinner Ashish Kapoor, also appeared animated over Gill’s run out.

Gill’s fifth half-century of the season, along with Buttler’s 64 off 37 balls and Sai Sudharshan’s 23-ball 46 helped Gujarat post 224/6 in their 20 overs.
