Bhubaneswar: The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 Auction officially began in Bengaluru at 12 pm on Saturday. Two cricketers from Odisha are among the 590, who will go under the hammer on these two days – February 12 and 13.
The 15th season will also see two new teams – Ahmedabad Titans and Lucknow Super Giants. All players, except those retained by Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Punjab Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders, Delhi Capitals, and Royal Challengers Bangalore, are in the auction pool.
Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan, and Shardul Thakur are expected to fetch the biggest amounts, the Hindustan Times reported.
According to the latest reports, Punjab Kings have bought Shikhar Dhawan for 8.25 crore and South African pacer Kagiso Rabada at a whopping Rs 9.25 crore.
Australian ace pacer Pat Cummins is back with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Rs 7.25 crore while Rajasthan Royals have bought R Ashwin at Rs 5 crore and Trent Boult for Rs 8 crore.
Shreyas Iyer also sold to KKR for Rs 12.25 crore.
Gujarat Titans have picked Mohammad Shami for Rs 6.25 crore.
The former CSK opener, Faf du Plessis, has been bought by Royal Challengers at Rs 7 crore.
Lucknow Super Giants picked Quinton de Kock for 6.75 crore.
Delhi Capitals bought David Warned, the former SRH opener, for Rs 6.25 crore, bringing an end to the Marquee Set of 10 players.
It is to be seen if any of the teams pick Subhranshu Senapati and Abhishek Raut of Odisha during the two-day bidding.
Each IPL team can have a maximum number of 25 players and at least 18 in their squad.
