Chandigarh: A day before the IPL players auction in Chennai, Kings XI Punjab were on Wednesday rechristened as Punjab Kings.
After the unveiling of the new logo, franchise CEO Satish Menon said: “Punjab Kings is a more evolved brand name, and we understand it was a right time for us to move focus on the core brand itself. The change in brand identity is not about changing our brand ethos but celebrating our one-ness as we stand in unit like a family. The new logo honours the liveliness and vibrancy of the brand and provides modern elements, while we stand out from rest of the teams.”
Jointly owned by Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia and Karan Paul, the team is yet to win the title in 13 years. Their best performance was a runners-up finish in 2014, when they lost to Kolkata Knight Riders in the final.
The 2020 edition, which had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, was ultimately held from September-November in the UAE albeit in front of empty stadiums.
The 14th edition will be held in India only, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India hoping to throw the matches open for spectators.
The dates are yet to be announced.
