Mumbai: It was already the richest and most popular T20 league in the cricketing world. Now, Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to be the second-richest sports league in the world in terms of per match value.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Tuesday confirmed at the end of a record-breaking e-auction that the media rights for IPL’s 2023-27 cycle have been acquired for an absolutely mind-boggling Rs 48,390.52 crore.
DisneyStar, Viacom 18 and Times Internet have emerged as the big winners.
With 410 matches to be broadcast in the five-year cycle, the total value per match for every IPL game is a whopping Rs 118 crore.
“Since its inception, the IPL has been synonymous with growth & today is a red-letter day for India Cricket, with Brand IPL touching a new high with e-auction resulting in INR 48,390 cr value. IPL is now the 2nd most valued sporting league in the world in terms of per match value!” BCCI secretary Jay Shah tweeted.
DisneyStar have retained the digital rights for a sum of Rs. 23,575 crore, while Viacom 18 have won digital and non-exclusive rights for Rs 23,578 and Rs 3, 258 crore, respectively.
Times Internet and Viacom have acquired the overseas rights for Rs 1,057 crore.
