New Delhi: In their mission to eliminate Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, how did Israel get information on his whereabouts?
According to a report in French newspaper Le Parisien, Israel authorities got to know about Nasrallah’s location in Beirut from an Iranian mole just hours before he was killed in an airstrike.
The report, citing a Lebanese security source, said that the secret agent informed Israel Defense Forces (IDF) that Nasrallah would be at Hezbollah’s underground headquarters in the southern suburbs of Beirut to attend a meeting with senior members of the militant group.
IDF said in a post on X at around 1.30 pm IST on Saturday (11 am in Lebanon) that Nasrallah will no longer be able to “terrorise” the world. “Hassan Nasrallah will no longer be able to terrorise the world,” IDF stated.
Hezbollah confirmed the news later in the day. “Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has joined his great, immortal martyr comrades whom he led for about 30 years,” read a Hezbollah statement.
The Le Parisien further reported that Israelis received another tip-off from an Iranian spy on Saturday afternoon, alerting them of the arrival of a prominent Shiite leader at Hezbollah headquarters, located in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
Nabil Kaouk, a prominent Hezbollah leader, was killed on Saturday in Israel’s latest strikes in Lebanon targeting senior leaders of the terror group.
