Tehran: Iran’s Revolutionary Guard on Sunday threatened to target US universities in West Asia after US-Israeli strikes destroyed two Iranian universities.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) conveyed the warning through Iranian media outlets on Sunday, issuing a firm demand for US action by a tight deadline, AFP reported.
“If the US government wants its un
iversities in the region to be free from retaliation… it must condemn the bombing of the universities in an official statement by 12 noon on Monday, March 30, Tehran time,” the statement said.
It added: “We advise all employees, professors, and students of American universities in the region and residents of their surrounding areas” stay a kilometre away from campuses.
Overnight strikes from Friday to Saturday hit Tehran, damaging the Iran University of Science and Technology in the northeast and reportedly Isfahan University, with buildings affected but no casualties reported.
Several US universities have campuses scattered throughout the Gulf region including Texas A&M University at Qatar Foundation in Doha, New York University Abu Dhabi in the UAE among others.
