New Delhi: Train tickets booked at reservation counters can finally be cancelled online. Earlier, if a ticket was purchased at a counter, it had to cancelled at an authorised counter, usually at the railway station by filling a cancellation form and standing in a queue for the same.
IRCTC has now added the convenience to cancel the ticket online in the same way e-tickets are cancelled. This means passengers will not have to spend time in cancelling their tickets.
How to cancel counter tickets online?
Open www.irctc.co.in. Go to ‘Cancel Ticket’ option under the ‘Trains’ menu. Under that, there is ‘Counter Ticket’. Click on that and type your PNR number and train number as printed on the ticket. Click on Submit and you will receive a One-Time-Password (OTP) on your registered phone number. Enter the OTP and click on Cancel Ticket to complete the cancellation procedure. The refund details are then messaged on your phone. The refund can be collected by showing the message/receipt at a nearby reservation counter.
