IRCTC Scam Case: Former CMs Lalu Yadav, Rabri Devi Summoned By Delhi Court

New Delhi: There is no respite for Lalu Yadav.

The former Bihar Chief Minister, who recently returned home after undergoing a kidney transplant in Singapore, and his wife Rabri Devi have been summoned by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court in the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) scam case.

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu and Rabri, another ex-CM, their daughter Misa Bharti and 11 other accused persons have been asked to appear before the court on March 15.

The Yadav family members and others have been accused of an alleged rigged recruitment in Indian Railways and providing jobs in lieu of land.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is probing allegations of accepting land in lieu of a job in Indian Railways, has filed a chargesheet in the case.

Taking cognisance of the chargesheet, the Delhi court has sent summons to 14 accused. After they are questioned, charges will be framed.

The CBI has alleged that Lalu, who was Union Railways Minister from 2004 to 2009, obtained pecuniary advantages in the form of transfer of landed property in the name of his family members in return for appointment of substitutes in Group ‘D’ posts.

Lalu, an accused in several fodder scams and other corruption cases, has been convicted and jailed in 2 scams.

He was serving a prison term in the fodder scam before being granted bail in April 2021.
