Kendrapara: The Kendrapara district administration on Wednesday suspended a Mid-Day Meal (MDM) nodal officer following alleged irregularities in distribution of rice under the welfare scheme.
He was identified as Rabindra Kumar Behari.
Acting on the directions of the district collector, charges were
also framed against the Block Education Officer (BEO) and Assistant
Block Education Officer (ABEO) of Derabish block in connection with
the matter.
Besides, the administration also imposed a penalty of Rs 6 lakh on
Cuttack-based Beekey Enterprises, which has taken the contract to supply rice under MDM
in the district.
On October 21, 500 bags of rice were seized while being unloaded illegally at a godown at Bihari Chowk in Thakurpatana under Sadar police limits in the district. Two persons were also arrested during the raid.
