Mumbai: Actress Alia Bhatt is set to headline a new relationship drama titled ‘Housewife’, directed by Abhishek Pathak, best known for helming the successful thriller Drishyam 2.
The film, described as a high-concept and topical narrative centered on a married couple navigating contemporary domestic challenges, will mark Alia’s collaboration with Pathak and potentially her first on-screen pairing with actor Rajkummar Rao.
According to Variety India, Alia will be playing a housewife in the film, which apparently revolves around a married couple. In addition to starring in the project, s
he will co-produce it under her banner, Eternal Sunshine Productions, in association with Pathak’s Panorama Studios..
While Rajkummar has shown interest in the project, he is yet to sign the formal contract. The film is likely to go on floors by August-September this year, once director Pathak wraps up work on ‘Drishyam 3′, the next instalment in the popular franchise, the report added.
This has come amid Alia’s packed schedule for 2027, including Maddock Films’ horror-comedy, ‘Chamunda’. She will next appear in the high-octane action thriller ‘Alpha’, directed by Shiv Rawail and set within the YRF Spy Universe. Bhatt plays a commanding officer in an elite all-women combat unit, sharing the screen with Sharvari Wagh and Bobby Deol. Originally planned for a Christmas 2025 release, the film has been rescheduled to 2026, with some sources pointing to April.
Alia also reunites with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in the period romance ‘Love & War’, co-starring Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal.
