Is COVID 3rd Wave Losing Steam In Odisha? Check What SRC Has to Say

Bhubaneswar: The virus tally indicates that the third wave of COVID-19 is on the wane in Odisha, Special relief Commissioner Pradeep Jena said on Wednesday.

“The state witnessed the peak period between January 13 and 19 with a daily caseload of 10,000-11,000. However, The COVID graph has been showing a downward trend since January 20 with the daily infections remaining below 10,000,” he said.

Since the rate of infection is on the decline since January 21, a further improvement is likely in the next few days, he said.

The SRC, however, refused to share any exact timeframe and said that experts would be in a better position to explain the volatility of the situation.

Jena stressed the need to follow the COVID protocol. “Wearing masks, maintaining hand hygiene and social distancing will help to bring down the cases even further,” he added.

Though cases have remained below 10,000, Wednesday saw a spike with 7426 people testing positive for COVID-19, a rise of 1535 cases as compared to Tuesday’s figures. The state had reported 5,891, the previous day, 7,291 cases on Monday, 8,520 cases on Sunday, 8,845 cases on Saturday, and 9,833 cases on Friday.
