London: Is Rishi Sunak, the son-in-law of Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy, going to be the next British Prime Minister?
According to reports, the name of Sunak, the Indian-origin Chancellor of the Exchequer, is doing the rounds as troubles mount for Boris Johnson and members of his own Conservative Party demand that he step down.
Nearly half of all Conservative members believe Sunak would make a better PM than Johnson, a poll has revealed, the Daily Mail reported. The survey of 1,005 Tories found that 46 per cent think the Chancellor would win more seats in the next election, it said.
Sunak, the UK-born son of a pharmacist mother and National Health Service (NHS) general practitioner father, is an Oxford University and Stanford graduate. He is married to Akshata Murthy, the daughter of Murthy. The couple has two young daughters, Krishna and Anoushka.
Sunak made history in February 2020 when he was appointed as the first Chancellor of the Exchequer of Indian heritage.
