Mumbai: Director Anubhav Sinha has sparked fresh excitement by revealing that he is keen to make a sequel to the Shah Rukh Khan starrer superhero universe ‘Ra.One’, but the project entirely depends on the superstar’s availability.
During a recent interview with Prabhat Khabar, describing the project as nothing short of a “two-to-three-year marriage,” the director said, “Ra One 2 ka ye hai mera bhi bada mann hai Ra One 2 ko banane me lagenge 2-3 saal. 2-3 saal ki lambi shaadi hai wo. To main zara, thoda sa khaali ho jau. Phir sochta hu ki wo teen saal tab main zindagi me lagana chahta hu aur uss wakt Khan sahab available hai ki nahi hai. Kyuki Khan sabah bhi to lage hue hai ek ke baad ek, ek ke baad ek (I really have a strong desire to make Ra.One 2. Making it would take about two to three years — it’s like a lo
ng marriage of two to three years. So I need to free myself up a little first. Then I will think about whether I want to dedicate those three years of my life to it and whether Khan Saab (Shah Rukh Khan) will be available at that time. Because Khan Saab is also busy, working on one project after another, continuously.)”
When ‘Ra.One’ hit theatres in 2011, it was considered as one of the biggest gambles in Bollywood as at that time superhero films were rare in Hindi cinema.
The decision to merge high-tech visual effects with gaming culture and an emotional family narrative was a daring move. Though the film didn’t turn out to be a blockbuster at box-office, it did set an example for others over the years.
Anubhav recently directed ‘Assi’, featuring Taapsee Pannu, Kani Kusruti, Mohd Zeeshan Ayyub, Revathy, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, and Supriya Pathak.
A review of the film by India Today read as, “You may walk out debating the film’s craft, its choices, even its tone. What is harder to debate is the reality it gestures toward. Because somewhere, every twenty minutes, another story begins or ends.”
Shah Rukh, on the other hand, is busy shooting for Siddharth Anand’s high octane action drama ‘King’.
