Vasco: A stunning goal by Javier Hernandez was not enough to salvage a point for Odisha FC as they went down 1-2 to Chennaiyin FC in an ISL-8 clash at Tilak Maidan here on Saturday evening.
The Spaniard collected a long ball from goalkeeper Kamaljit Singh and set off on a winding run before unleashing a bullet-like left-footer from about 30 yards which easily beat Chennaiyin custodian Vishal Kaith.
The goal came too late, well into stoppage time, leaving Odisha FC no chance to push for an equalizer.
It was Odisha FC’s third loss in six matches. With 9 points, courtesy three wins, Odisha FC sit fifth on the 11-team table.
Chennaiyin, who looked the better side in the first session, took the lead through Germanpreet Singh in the 23rd minute.
Odisha went in search for the equalizer after half-time but failed to convert a couple of chances.
Chennaiyin doubled their lead through Kyrgyzstan’s Mirlan Murzaev after 63 minutes. It could well have been 3-0 for Chennaiyin but for a fine penalty save by Odisha goalkeeper Kamaljit.
