Rourkela: A day after President Dr Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the Super Speciality Hospital in the Steel City, a group of workers of the Left and the BJD and locals on Monday allegedly ransacked its properties.
According to sources, the irate workers of CITU, CPI (M), BJD and some locals barged into the hospital around 10 am and had heated arguments with some staff over the absence of the doctors and staff nurses. Later, they went on the rampage and broke chairs, tables and computers on hospital premises.
Talking to the media, the agitators questioned why the RSP authorities had not briefed the President about the need for doctors and the health staff at the four wards.
Following information, senior officers of the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) and the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) rushed to the hospital to take stock of the situation.
Till reports last came in, a meeting was underway between authorities concerned and the agitators.
It may be recalled that the CITU, CPI (M) and BJD leaders and senior citizens had last week staged a demonstration urging the RSP authorities to hand over the management of the hospital to the AIIMS. Besides, they had also formed a human chain three days ago on this matter.
