Gaza/Jerusalem: Israel and Hamas started truce talks on Friday at the hour set by the Egyptian mediators.
Also, US President Joe Biden pledged humanitarian aid for the war-torn Gaza Strip.
Palestinians, several of whom had spent 11 days huddled in the apprehension of Israeli shelling, poured into Gaza’s streets. Mosque loud-speakers felicitated “the victory of the resistance achieved over the Occupation (Israel) during the ‘Sword of Jerusalem’ battle.”
Hamas had publicly confirmed the 2 am (2300 GMT Thursday) ceasefire while the Israelis hadn’t, reported news agency Reuters.
According to both, each side said it was ready to retaliate for any truce violations by the other. Cairo confirmed that it would send two delegations to monitor the ceasefire.
