IT Engineer Held For Raping Colleague On False Promise Of Marriage In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: An IT engineer was arrested by the Commissionerate Police on Friday on charges of sexually assaulting his colleague on the false promise of marriage in Bhubaneswar.

The accused, identified as Subhash Nayak, had been on the run for the last six months. Police arrested him after he surrendered following rejection of his anticipatory bail application, sources said.

The accused, who worked with the woman in the same private IT company, lured her into a relationship by promising to marry her. With his false promise of marriage, he established a physical relation with the female colleague.

However, when the woman began asking about marriage, the accused avoided the topic and betrayed her after repeated sexual assault.

After being ditched by the male colleague, the woman lodged a complaint with Badagada police in the state capital in June, this year. After learning about the police complaint lodged by her, the accused reportedly fled.

Unable to get anticipatory bail from the court, the accused surrendered before the police, the sources said, adding that further investigation is underway.
