Sundargarh: The raids by Income Tax officials on residence and offices of a businessman at different places in Odisha’s Sundargarh district continued for second day on Saturday.
According to sources, the IT officials started the raids on businessman Bibhu Panda for tax evasion on Friday. Panda runs coal transport business besides rice mills and other trades.
At least 8 IT officials from Sambalpur division in separate teams carried out the raids on his offices and residences at College Road in Sundargarh town and Hemagiri in the district. The raids have been continuing overnight on these places.
The IT officials have seized several important document during the raids. But the exact amount of tax evasion has not been revealed as the raids were still continuing, the sources said.
It may be noted that the IT officials had seized Rs 351 crore from the properties of a Jharkhand MP during raids during 5-day raids in Boudh, Balangir, Sundargarh, Sambalpur and adjoining areas in December last year. It was claimed to be the “highest-ever” haul in a single action by any probe agency in the country.
