Paralakhemundi: An Italian couple has adopted an abandoned girl child from Gajapati district of Odisha.
They took custody of the child after completing necessary formalities in the presence of district collector Anupam Saha on Thursday. Two other girl children were also adopted by two parents from Kolkata.
The officials of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) had found the three children abandoned from different places in the district during the lockdown due to COVID-19 pandemic.
Later, the children were shifted to SAA NISSAN Shamlon Children Home, a child care centre in Paralakhemundi, and their profiles uploaded in the official website of the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) for adoption. The couples came to know about the minor girls from the website and evinced interest for their adoption.
The couples were enlisted for adopting the children as per due procedures. After getting the custody following an order by the District Judge Court, the girls were handed over to the couples by the Gajapati district administration, said Collector Anupam Saha.
CWC chairperson Pramod Kumar Roul, member Alaka Sahoo and director of SAA NISSAN Shamlon Children Home Biswajit Pani were also present during the adoption process.
