Bhubaneswar: Hundreds of students of the Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER) staged a massive demonstration before the main gate of the institute, accusing the authorities of not ‘keeping promises’ made during the fake placement row.
“Earlier in May this year, vice chancellor of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) University Prof Amit Banerjee had assured to provide a stipend of Rs 20,000 to the duped students by engaging them as teaching assistant for a period of one year or till they get jobs whichever is earlier. He had also announced to provide jobs to these students within a period of three months. But no step in this regard has been taken by the authorities till date,” an agitating student said.
As many as 50 students had demonstrated on the campus after job offer letters they had received through campus placement were found to be fake.
The Commissionerate Police has so far arrested four persons in connection with the scam.
