Berhampur: At a time when oxygen has turned critical element for treatment of COVID-19 patients and transportation of oxygen cylinders a tedious affair, the Industrial Training Institute (ITI), here has developed a device to ease the process.
Currently, after reaching the hospitals and Covid care units, the oxygen cylinders are shifted manually which not only requires manpower but also time. Besides, there is safety issue to look after.
The cylinder lifter or the transporter designed by the staff and students of government-run Industrial Training Institute (ITI) addresses all these problems. The transporter can easily carry cylinders upto 160 kg weight to the hospital bed with only one person operating the process inside the hospital.
Dr Rajat Kumar Panigrahy, the principal of the ITI said they got the concept from Berhampur sub-collector V Keerti Vasan. “Our five-member team under the leadership of Bichitrananda Padhiary has fabricated it. We are ready to supply this device to the Covid hospitals instantly whenever we are asked to,” he said.
The ITI has already developed 15 new devices to help Covid care and four pf those have been patented.
