Berhampur: An exhibition of miniature models of vintage motorcycles made from scraps has drawn appreciation from bikers as well as young enthusiasts in Berhampur of Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The 9-day exhibition which opened in the campus of Industrial Training Institute (ITI), Berhampur on July 15 will continue upto July 23. It is open to the general public on all working days from 9 am to 5 pm. The exhibition has been organised on World Youth Skill Day with the theme ‘Waste-2-Wealth’.
About 50 miniature models of vintage bikes made from scrap materials have been designed and fabricated by ITI students of almost all trades including Electrician, Fitter, Instrument Mechanics, Wielder and Painter as part of their on the job training. They have used different parts of the bikes including chain, gear, crank, spoket, timing chain and others.
“This project would help the students become self-reliant as the miniature models of vintage bikes are in great demand in the market for interior design. The miniature models may also be on sale. We will keep order and provide on demand,” said Dr Rajat Kumar Panigrahi, Principal. ITI Berhampur.
The vintage bike miniature models weigh from one-and-a-half kg to 8 kg. While the production cost of each model is around Rs 300, it can be sold at Rs 1000 which is much cheaper than the market price, sources said.
“These bike models are of high quality and attention has been paid to every detail. Shining paintwork, steerable handlebar that works and even the front and rear suspension that works. I dreamt of acquiring one such real size bike to drive on the road,” said a youth who visited the exhibition on the opening day.
