Kargil: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spent Diwali the way he has been doing for the last nine years – with with jawans at border areas or forward posts.
On Monday, Modi visited Kargil where he interacted with Army personnel and addressed them.
“For me, all of you have been my family for years now. Sweetness and brightness of my Diwali is amid you. It is a privilege to celebrate Diwali amid all of you,” he told the soldiers.
Stressing that the forces posted at Kargil reminded everyone that the post symbolises victory.
“There has not been a single war with Pakistan where Kargil has not hoisted the flag of victory,” Modi said. “Diwali means festival of end of terror and Kargil made it possible,” he added.
Boosting the morale of soldiers, Modi said: “A nation is safe when the border is secure, the economy strong and the society is full of confidence.”
He remarked that he could not have experienced Diwali of such magnitude any other way.
“On one side there are the sovereign borders of the nation, and on the other committed soldiers, On one hand we have the love of the soil of motherland, and on the other there are braveheart jawans. I could not have expected a Diwali of such magnitude anywhere else.”
