Chennai: Yet another entry-level car faces the axe with Hyundai deciding to discontinue the Eon.
According to a report published in MyCarHelpline, the company has stopped the production of its cheapest car and dealers are currently clearing stock at discounts of around Rs 1 lakh. This is also evident from the sales numbers published in Team-BHP that indicates Hyundai has shipped just 1 and 5 units of Eon in November and October respectively this year.
The 814cc car was launched back in 2011 and hadn’t received a mechanical update since.
The re-introduction of the Santro has dwindled the sales of Eon, which is closely priced starting under 4 lakh rupees.

Another reason for the discontinuation could be the impending safety norms that have forced Maruti to stop making its best-seller – Alto800. Maruti had mentioned that it is unfeasible to redesign smaller cars as there is space constraint to add crumple zones and other safety features.
